Coldplay to Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show

Over the past few months, a lot of acts were rumored to be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, including Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and One Direction.

But in the end, the NFL went with COLDPLAY.  And according to reports, BEYONCÉ may also be joining them for “Hymn on the Weekend”.  Well hey, at least it isn’t One Direction, right?

The NFL says other acts will join them, but didn’t elaborate.

Coldplay’s new album “A Head Full of Dreams” is out today.  The Super Bowl is happening at Levi’s Stadium where the San Francisco 49ers play on February 7th.

Naturally, the haters are already complaining about it on the Internet with Tweets like, quote, “Someone should run the concussion protocol on whoever picks Super Bowl halftime talent.”

“The NFL doesn’t even know what a catch is, so I don’t expect them to know what a good band is.”  “Nothing says hard-nosed gridiron football like an acoustic version of ‘Yellow’.”  And “Coldplay is the clip-on-man-bun of bands.”  (There’s more, here.  And here’s video of Chris Martin talking about how he’s excited about it.)
