Michael Weatherly Is Leaving NCIS After 13 Seasons

MICHAEL WEATHERLY is leaving “NCIS” after the current season, the show’s 13th.  He’s played Tony DiNozzo in every episode since the show premiered back in 2003.

It’s unclear why he’s leaving, but it sounds like it was his decision.  He Tweeted, quote, “DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character, and I couldn’t have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons.”

In an interview a few days ago, David McCallum accidentally let the cat out of the bag.  McCallum plays Ducky on “NCIS”.  He said that Weatherly’s departure would come at the end of the season, and that it’s been planned for a while now.

It’s been hinted before that DiNozzo might take on his own team or even join the cast of one of the existing spin-offs, so it’s not clear if this is the end for his character.  In fact, CBS confirmed that Michael Weatherly has some sort of “development deal” with the network.

So you can at least expect to see Weatherly return to TV sometime soon.
